Our organisation was founded by Chief Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar, wife of the current Vice President of Federal Republic of Nigeria. The organisation was formed in 1999.
Trafficking in women and child labor are both rampant in Nigeria. Most of the young women and children involved are shipped off to Italy to work as prostitutes. Chief Amina was previously working as a college teacher and it was there that she discovered about the trafficking in young women and children. What caught her attention was how some of her students would “disappear” from class for several months and they would return looking very healthy and with money to settle their school fees. She started investigating and discovered that when these young women were not in school they would be working in Italy and would return to school when their “madams” agreed.
The major challenge of our organisation is getting cooperation from the parents. In most cases, most of them are poor and they would rather turn a blind eye to what is happening rather than work against it.
