established in 1996 by concerned citizens of Nigeria to combat HIV/AIDS

Since the appearance of Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) over 15-20 years ago, it has spread to almost every country in the world. About 36 million people are infected worldwide and about 5 million have died.


The most heavily affected region being sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria falls within it. 
Despite efforts to control the epidemic, HIV prevalence rate within Nigeria is increasing at an alarming rate. Nigeria ranks second within the sub-Saharan Africa for the number of infected adults. 

It is to combat this situation that concerned citizens came together to form the association called NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE ON WAR AGAINST AIDS AND POVERTY. NAPWAAP is a non-government, voluntary, non-profit, non-ethnic, non-political and non-religious Association established in Sokoto in 1996 by concerned citizens of Nigeria.

Its goal is to carry out activities that will result in the control and prevention of HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections and Poverty related problems with a view to uplifting the health and economic status of individuals in the society. NAPWAAP's target groups are women and the youth.
