Sokoto State is in the north-west corner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, bordering on Niger, on the edge of the Saharan desert region. The State capital is the city of Sokoto, near the confluence of the Rima and Sokoto rivers. With an average annual temperature of 28°C, it is one of the world's hottest cities.
The Coalition of NGOs (non-governmental organisations) in Sokoto State is an umbrella body whose members are 30 different groups working in areas of HIV/AIDS, women's rights, community development, street children, orphans and training and environment. The organisations' aim is to network for development purposes and to carry out advocacy activities. See Strategic Plan 2007-2009.
